2015 Vintage Report

"Unusually late, localised frost in the Waitakere Road vineyard that wiped out a large tract of Chardonnay vine shoots"

On 25 October 2014 we experienced an unusually late, localised frost in the Waitakere Road vineyard that wiped out a large tract of Chardonnay vine shoots and devastated the production for 2015 from that particular vineyard. The overall yield from the rest of our Kumeu vineyards was also affected to some extent, resulting in a small vintage.

This was a great pity, because the growing conditions for the remainder of the growing season that year were very favourable and gave us grapes in perfect condition, and with beautiful fruit intensity, coupled with a vibrant acidity that shines through the length of the palate.

The lower than usual cropping level has given us wines with both aromatic intensity on the nose, and concentration on the palate, and these traits bode very well for ageing in the bottle.
